Our presentation at UPA Munich 2010 - 10/06/2010

It was a pleasant surprise to see so many professionals from different parts of the world filling the room to watch our presentation at UPA Munich. Together with Dr. Jim Hudson, Head Global User Experience Researcher at PayPal, we talked about the challenges of conducting global UX studies.

In the presentation "Conducting International Research - Client & Vendor Perspectives" we focused on real situations that come up in a global study, from 2 points of view: the client's (PayPal) and the local service provider (Mercedes Sanchez Usabilidade). Our goal was to inform and raise awareness companies and providers about conducting studies in different countries.

The idea was to share some of our experience of over 5 years in conducting international studies with many companies and specially with PayPal.

Our impressions
For us it was quite an experience to participate in this UPA event. It was the firs time we presented at an international conference as large as UPA. We are proud to be among presenters from so many different countries and to be able to show some of the serious work we have been doing here in Brazil, which is internationally recognized.

But the best part was really getting to meet old friends and partners again, meeting colleagues from companies we have worked with but never had the opportunity to see in person, and of course the new contacts that we made.

Jim Hudson from PayPal agrees that the best thing in conferences is the interaction between people and goes even further: "While I was getting my PhD, my advisor once said to me, 'At a conference, it’s not about which sessions you attend. It’s about who you skip them with.' To me, that was the most valuable thing about the conference. I got to meet some new colleagues and renew relationships with old colleagues. "

Take a look at some pictures from UPA Munich which show a little of the conference, the people and our presentation.
