When reusable is not usable! - 06/11/2009
We have just finished conducting a study on reusable bags for sale in supermarkets in São Paulo. The aim of our study was to evaluate how easy to use, practical and comfortable for consumers, reusable bags are. These are all important factors to help make consumers change their habits and start using reusable bags instead of plastic bags.
In Brazil reducing the use of plastic bags is currently a very hot topic. There are numerous government and organization campaigns to try and change attitudes and habits. However, Brazilian consumers have used plastic bags for years and many still go to the supermarkets only once a month, buying enough to stock up for the rest of the month. So, to reduce the use of plastic bags the alternatives, such as reusable bags, need to be suitable for a Brazilian market.

About the study
We observed consumers packing their purchases in various shops and we conducted tests in our lab on 5 different models of reusable bags, which are sold in supermarkets in São Paulo.
We invited 10 consumers to come to our lab and pack 16 products into 5 different bags.
The tests were recorded and during our Webinar we are going to show clips from the recording which show difficult and easy features, from the consumers' point of view, of each of the 5 reusable bags that they used.
